WARREN LEAGUE 2005
Rules and Decisions
The Warren League is an Association of Golf Clubs formed to provide a venue for social gathering and the spread of friendship and goodwill.
- The League will consist of two circuits each consisting of not more than nine Member clubs. The circuits will be known as the “Red” section and the “Blue” section.
- The conception of the League is to allow as many 10 – 27 handicap players as possible to represent their Club.
- Matches in each section should normally be played on Saturdays, but by arrangement may be played on other days.
- Clubs will play each other once in each season. In the following season the Home and Away matches will be reversed.
- Teams will consist of ten players from each club, each team will comprise of not more than five players with handicaps 10 – 15 and five players with handicaps 16 – 27: this may be modified by bringing in more players in the longer handicap range. However the basic rule of five in each handicap range should be followed as this makes for more even matches.
- The match pairings must always include at least 1 from the high handicap range.
- If a player has been selected for a match but within 2 weeks of the date of the match, his handicap is cut so that he becomes “out of the range” for the match, he may play but at his new lower handicap. The opposing captain can request verification re the date of handicap change.
- Handicaps shall be in accordance with the rules of golf, but will not be adjusted, under the corresponding Handicap Table. After handicap allowance the home club for local knowledge will concede one stroke per player - examples shown below. This concession does not apply to the Warren League Trophy and the Parker Plate.
- Matches will be played from the yellow tees.
- The matches will each consist of five, four ball better ball games played under the rules for Match play, and as from 2005 will include the final of the Warren League Trophy.
- The score of a match will be decided on the basis of the number of games won and lost.
- The winning Club will be awarded two points and in the event of a halved match one point will be awarded to each club.
- It is the duty of both clubs to notify the Warren League Captain the result of the matches.
- It is customary for the Home Club in each match to entertain the visitors to a meal after the match, or if agreed by both clubs, before the match.
- The visiting team is expected to conform to any dress code set by the Home Club.
- All fixtures are to be completed by the second week end in September, in order to enable the finals to be organised.
- The Club in each section with the most points will be declared the section winner.
- In the event of a tie, in either section, the clubs concerned will play off to decide the section winner. Should more than two clubs tie reference should be made to the Warren League Captain for a decision as to how a tie may be resolved.
- The section winners will play for the Warren League Trophy. To obviate a tie in the final all matches will be played to a conclusion.
- On the day of the Warren League Annual Competition and Dinner, the section winners will play at Kingswood Golf Club under the above rules to decide the League winners. As the Parker Plate is also played on the same day the two Clubs concerned will also be required to supply two players to compete in the Parker Plate.
- The club with the least number of points will be awarded the wooden spoon. In the event of a tie after countback the spoon will be held for an appropriate period.
- At two yearly intervals the two Sections will be changed with a view to ensuring that all clubs play each other over a period of time. The Warren League Captain will do this.
- Matters of doubt or dispute should if necessary, be referred to the Warren League Captain whose decision shall be final, but he may be assisted by the Vice Captains if required. It is however, expected that such matters will be dealt with by the Clubs concerned in the spirit of Rule 1 above.
- On the day of the Warren League Annual competition teams of two players from each Club will compete in a four ball better ball stapleford competition for the Parker Plate.
- The Annual general Meeting of the Warren League will be held in October each year at Kingswood Golf Club. Each member club is required to send one delegate to the AGM. The Annual Club subscription will be decided at each AGM.
- The Warren League Annual Dinner will be held in October each year on the same day as the Annual competition, and in the dining room of Kingswood Golf Club. The Warren League Captain will notify each club the number of dining places available and the charge per head.
- The Warren League Trophy, Parker Plate and Wooden Spoon will be presented at the Annual Dinner.
